NOVEMBER 21st

It’s Friday and Sunday’s Comin’!

It’s practically Thanksgiving and you’ve sent in many reports of The Church Leaving the Building this month. Here’s a few more:

  • I called a friend who isn’t able to get out much because of health reasons. It was good to catch up. I think our conversation helped him but it also helped me!
  • I drove through McDonalds for coffee and paid for the order of the car behind me with the message of “Have Peace and to be Kind.” I prayed for that car full of teenagers as I pulled out.
  • I helped Habitat put up the Christmas trees on the Courthouse lawn. It was fun and a beautiful day with some great people; it was also inspiring to learn more about the Main Street group and the ways that they work to make our community more hospitable. Many people work hard for the good of our community!
  • I hadn’t really known about the Little letter of James until recently. It’s really short and easy to miss but what a great letter!  Really inspiring.

This ends our reporting of the November Day of Caring acts of love and compassion but, of course, love and compassion don’t end.  As the writer of the Letter of James writes:

You must be doers of the word and not only hearers who mislead themselves. Those who hear but don’t do the word are like those who look at their faces in a mirror. They look at themselves, walk away, and immediately forget what they were like. But there are those who study the perfect law, the law of freedom, and continue to do it. They don’t listen and then forget, but they put it into practice in their lives. They will be blessed in whatever they do.
                                                              –James 1:22-25

May God continue to strengthen you and give you perseverance in love and compassion in the midst of a difficult time!

Grace and peace,
Pastor Mary

Congratulations to Jay Hancock who just completed the process to become a Certified Lay Speaker/Servant in our district.  This certification involves several classes on preaching, theology, church organization and leadership.  We’re grateful for Jay’s leadership.  Other Certified Lay Speakers in our congregation are Laura and Dick Young.

Others may feel called to this ministry — to deepen your spiritual understanding and prepare to use your gifts in new ways. If so, please call me or talk with Jay, Laura or Dick.

Jay will be preaching tomorrow for worship. Thank you, Jay!
