May 27th

It’s Friday and Sunday’s Comin’!

Today was Energize Day at the Brown County Public Library! The switch was flipped on the new “solar carport” which will provide 100% of the library’s electrical usage. A very cool souvenir was this solar-powered night light (see photo above)!

I was proud and touched by the number of Board members, library staff and individual donors who are associated with NUMC!  FallFare dollars also made an impact, with the church itself listed as a “Breaking Dawn” donor.  This outreach effort helps to tell the story of what we say:  Love God, Love Others, Pass It On!  Congratulations to Library Director Stori Snyder, the Library Board and all those associated with the solar project who are leading the community to make a better world.

It has been a week of unspeakable sadness as uncontrolled gun use and dark hatred took the lives of 19 school children and their two teachers. It was the 213th mass shooting in the U.S. since the first of the year (defined as 4 or more victims). The echoes of Jesus’ words on the cross come to us: “Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing.”

It is tempting to be bound up in anger and resentment and yet the commandment that Jesus gave to us is “Love one another as I have loved you.” And so that is what we must do:  Love one another, love the world, love the ones who are unlovable; love with the ways you use your money, love with the ways you use your time, love the way that God loves you.

Blessings,
