October 25

Roy’s Ramblings

October is coming to an end – and so – some observations:

  1. Tourist season and leaves turning color are at their peek. If you haven’t taken the time to sit a spell outside and just enjoy the beauty of God’s handiwork in the autumn changes, you truly need to. Earlier this week I sat on my back porch and enjoyed the sounds of birds and squirrels – the sights of leaves, deer, and turkeys – the smell of a neighbor somewhere grilling something on a gentle breeze.
  2. Halloween is this week and with very short notice we are going to have a candy giveaway on Salt Creek Trail. If you would like to bring candy … have it to the church by Wednesday the 30th and if you want to sit at the designated area to hand out said candy … wear a costume and find us near the YMCA end of the trail. We will be setting up between 3:30 and 4:00 and the Trick Or Treating will be from 5-7 (or ‘til the candy runs out).
  3. Charge Conference is coming!! This is the United Methodist end of year meeting and reporting. So on Wednesday October 30th at 6pm – we will be at St Mark’s UMC in Bloomington. All of the church council is invited and expected to attend (even though everyone coming hardly ever happens) and we hear how the district is doing; what ministries are happening; and vote on our leadership. Hope to see those on Church Council there!! (By the Way – you are invited even if you aren’t on Church Council)
  4. FallFare was a huge success!!!! This Sunday we will be receiving the final numbers and after church will be deciding who the recipients are and the amounts they will receive. What a blessing we have been to so many for 52 years!!
  5. November 3rd is All Saints Sunday. This is the day that we remember the church members that went on to glory this past year. This year we celebrate 4 members – Bill Pruitt, Jim Goodman, Cora Louise Miller, and Nancy Hudson. We will be lighting candles in their honor as we read their names and have other candles available to be lit in honor of non-member loved ones as well.

And so October comes to an end and with it another glorious autumn here in Brown County. But … we have Thanksgiving right around the corner with Advent close on its heels. Lots of planning – lots of excitement – lots to look forward to. So, invite your friends – your family – or even total strangers on the street to come and be a part of the wonderful world of Nashville United Methodist Church.

Bless You all – Pastor Roy
