Roy’s Ramblings
There is a scene in the movie White Christmas where the four main characters (Bing, Danny, Rosemary, and Vera-Ellen) are on a train to New England and they sing: Snow, Snow, Snow, Snow. Then they get to Vermont and there is no snow. After some work, performance, and a little romance … in the final scene the snow starts falling and the signature song White Christmas is sung. I felt that way this year for Christmas. I love a White Christmas, but we had 50 degrees on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day … a real bummer. But wait … Christmas is twelve days long and on Jan 5, the twelfth day of Christmas it started snowing … and snowing … and snowing. Twelve inches is what I measured in my driveway.
So I say all of that to say this: It is never a bad thing to “Wait upon the Lord.” I speak often of God answering prayers, (not that we were praying for a foot of snow) and we do pray for things that we many times do not see instantly. Last Sunday, after I put out the notification that we should all be safe in our driving and venturing out into the weather, we ended up having 9 in Sunday School and 8 in church. We gathered in the Green Room for Sunday School and we gathered down front for church. There was no music, no projection, no recording, or microphones, we just gathered in God’s presence and prayed, read Scripture, and talked about God. It was peaceful, and quaint, and moving.
So, how are we going to move forward with 2025? Last Sunday we read about the Magi and gifts – we talked about John Wesley’s Covenant with God, and we thought about our God given Gifts and how to use them best. This coming Sunday (God and Snow Storm willing) we will read and discuss the Baptism of Jesus and our Covenant with God/Church/Kingdom. How are we being called to work for God? In what ways are our talents needed and useful? What steps or stops are being guided by the Spirit of God in our lives and in our ministry?
Just some ramblings and things that we may ponder this week and in the weeks to come.
I encourage us all to: Stay Safe, Warm, and Blessed – Pastor Roy
