Roy’s Ramblings
So, this coming Sunday is Palm Sunday, the start of Holy Week, Palm/Passion Sunday, the Triumphal Entry Sunday. What exactly does that mean? Well, it starts as celebration – waving of Palm Leaves, the reading of Jesus entering into Jerusalem with crowds cheering and laying palm branches on the road to give Jesus a royal welcome, and lots of music. As the service continues … it slows down … it ends with more subdued music, the removal of the shiny stuff, and a somber entrance into the week of: Jesus saying goodbye, betrayal, the arrest, the trial, denial, and death.
This is a strange Sunday – should we be happy?? Sad?? Mixed emotions?? In one of the musical pieces we have a children’s choir and percussion instruments – the bells are playing – and we have palm trees. On the other hand we know that this is the start of the end. But, we also know that the end is the start of the beginning.
So I encourage you all to came Sunday and prepare for the week ahead leading into Easter – come to the Holy Thursday Service at NUMC at 7pm and to the Good Friday Service at St Agnus at 6:30pm as we prepare our hearts, minds, and souls to fully appreciate the Celebration of the Resurrection on Easter Morning. Invite all to come and worship God in such a varied and wonderful way.
Blessed Holy Week All – Pastor Roy
