Roy’s Ramblings
It’s Summer!!! And, after this past week of some high temps … it feels like summer. I enjoy summertime – Fireworks for Independence Day, swimming, grilling, gardening, camping – all kinds of fun activities. Summer is a time to try some new things, experience new activities, make some memories. Each year when summer rolls around I know that there are activities, events, and even unofficial rituals that we love to participate in doing. What are some of your favorites? Do you share these with others? Would you like to?
Many times we get so busy with our own activities/agendas that we sometimes forget that there are folks in the world that do not have family or friends do stuff with. I know all of you have heard of our time in DC (In fact some of you may be sick of hearing about our time in DC). But one thing that I didn’t realize while we were there – we got to hang out with the Birkemeier’s and the Schrader’s. Two new families that we didn’t know very well before. We swam in the pool – went out to eat – visited museums … had fun!!
So many times in this modern age (Translated: post pandemic – social media – electronics addicted age) we have forgotten how to be in relationship with our neighbors/friends/communities. It’s sad really – the days of front porch sittin’ with a pitcher of lemonade, just waiting for someone to come up and sit a spell. (Ok maybe we never really did that, but it sounds great!!!) So, what is the equivalent?? Text someone and say:” Me and the family are headed to get a pizza … wanna come along? – OR – We are headed to the State Fair … lets meet there for some deep fried butter and pet a cow. – OR – See ya in church … I’ll save you a seat!! (Just had to throw that one in). Yup – it summertime alright – lets have some fun and make some memories!!
Blessings – Pastor Roy
