Roy’s Ramblings

Greetings Beautiful People!! I pray that you all are warm and safe and have survived this week of Snow and Cold. First, here is some catch up: This coming Sunday was supposed to be Scout Sunday … we didn’t have scouts this week because of the snow so Scout Sunday has been moved to February 8. (Although the Girl Scouts will still be selling cookies before and/or after church. February 8 is still Soup-er bowl Sunday – so we are all asked to bring in a can of soup (or several) to donate to the Brown County Backpack Program – the shopping cart will be ready to accept your generous donations. Also on Sunday the 8th – God’s Kids will be making valentines for our extended family in assisted living here in Nashville – so all are invited to come make valentines with the kids during the Sunday School Hour. Make sure you scroll down to see the announcements about Sunshine Friends and Friend of the Library Sweet sale. Feed the Soul: Adult Prom will take place on February 21 and the Mountain Mission Truck is coming Monday morning. I’m sure I’m missing something … but that is the majority of what is coming up.

So, Ramblings … What’s on my mind?? Well, currently I am looking out my back window of the house seeing God’s beauty – snow covered hills, trees, and yard. A couple of deer are bedded down just at the edge of the woods. A squirrel is taking turns with the wild birds eating from my bird feeder and there is a calm in my small little corner of the world. All of this to remind me that even with the turmoil going on in other places – with war, hunger, murder, violence, snowstorms, ice storms, record low temps, and a dozen or so other things that I am not listing … God still blesses us with peace and beauty.

Every age, every generation, from the beginning of time has had struggles and set backs; has had world issues and problems; has been persecuted and harmed. But, does that mean that we just throw our hands up in the air and say: Oh, well … Can’t stop it … can’t do anything about it!! I personally don’t think so; I think that we make a difference where we are with those around us. We continue to follow and live out the example of Jesus: feeding, clothing, helping … loving!!

I am reminded of the song by Ella Fitzgerald – Brighten the Corner Where You Are:

Brighten the corner where you are

Do not wait until some deed of greatness you may do
Do not wait to shed your light afar
To the many duties ever near you now be true
Brighten the corner where you are

Brighten the corner where you are
Brighten the corner where you are
Someone far from harbour you may guide across the bar
Brighten the corner where you are

Just above are clouded skies that you may help to clear
Don’t let selfishness your way debar
Though into one heart alone may fall your song of cheer
Brighten the corner where you are

Here for all your talent, you may surely find a need
Here reflect the bright and morning star
Even from your humble hand the bread of life may feed
Brighten the corner where you are

Brighten the corner where you are
Brighten the corner where you are
Someone far from harbour you may guide across the bar
Brighten the corner where you are
