Roy’s Ramblings…From Vacation

As most of you know, I am coming off of a two week vacation. And, before anyone asks: Where did you go? What did you see? Did you get any cool souvenirs? … It was a “Stay-cation”. I didn’t travel or sightsee or do … well … anything out of the ordinary really. Week one, Lauren went to Scout camp at Maumee Scout Reservation with the Church’s Scouts, while Samuel had Theater Camp preparing for Alice in Wonderland where he played Tweedle-Dum. Over the weekend the parsonage dryer went out so we went a bought a new one and Gary Manning and I replaced a dryer, meanwhile, we also thought it would be the right time to buy a new mattress (It was 4th of July time – which for some reason means you celebrate mattresses) so we did that. I spent one day at my parents house helping my sister and family clean out 50 years of living. And, we as a town had a fireworks celebration. I also watched our services on line each Sunday and prayed for each person in our new Pictorial Directory by name each day. That was my two weeks. (I think we did go out to eat a couple of times as well … Shout out to Casa De Sol and Brozinni’s)

I got back into the office after two weeks off to being about eight weeks behind – how does that even happen?? But I also came back to a hand written note … folded … sealed with a heart sticker … that simply said: Welcome Back – you were missed – we prayed for you, your family and your time off. (signed with a hand drawn heart)

I don’t know who … I don’t know when … and I don’t need to know. But to whomever left that simple gesture … Thank You. It makes me realize that we don’t have to change the whole world by ourselves; we can simply do little things to make our little part of it better. We do not need to move mountains and make headlines; we can do simple little things that touch people at the “Soul Level”.

Scripture tells us in 1 Kings:

The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”

Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.

And so I tell you this: keep praying for the church and for the leadership, keep praying for the ministries and for those that are touched, keep praying for God’s will and desire for you and for us all, and keep doing the little things that make all the difference.
